This course explores theories of learning and their application, implications for the use of technology and standards-based education. Special emphasis on planning, developing and assessing instruction. Prerequisite: Successful prior completion of TBTE 406.

This grad level course is comprised of screening and discussion of television programs including I Love Lucy, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Designing Women, Murphy Brown, Girlfriends, Sex and the City, and The L Word. Screenings are accompanied by theoretical readings that students will use during discussion to interpret and do a feminist analysis of the television shows we watch.

In this course, students will read female authored and female centered literature from the early 1900s as well as modern day literature considered to be chick lit. In this course, we will discuss the validity of modern day chick lit as a genre. We will approach this question by analyzing this modern literature with the help of classic feminist literature from authors like Kate Chopin and Edith Wharton. One goal of this course is to compare and contrast the literature from both time periods by assessing whether or not the issues being discussed in the early part of the century are still relevant today.

Emphasis will be on meeting the diverse needs of students in general education classrooms and settings.
