Lehigh Valley Summerbridge Alumni Website
I have only been teaching for a few years and can already see how overwhelming it is to try to remember every single student that ever walked through your classroom. There are definitely a few students I carry with me though. They are the ones that taught me how to be more patient, more understanding, more clear and direct. They taught me valuable lessons in my journey to become a professional educator. The student on the right is one of those students. During the summer of 08, he was in my very first class of students ever, and was on my core team for two summers. When his brother enrolled in the program in the summer of 2011, I got to see Matias and catch up with him. The man standing before me, although bearing resemblance to the boy he used to be, had grown. He reflected on his time at Summerbridge and told me |
how important the program was to him. He told me about his political aspirations and his desire to help the people of Bethlehem and the people of his home country.
The student on the left was shy and reserved in my classroom. The time leading up to this picture was great for me as a teacher. I watched these two boys of different ages, ethnicity, from two different schools and with opposite personalities come together during a project to make one of my most memorable lessons. They had fun, I had fun, it was a good day.
Now, these boys, only a few years later, are men.
